STUART LAKE is 66km long and 10km wide is the 7th largest lake in the province. Stuart Lake is renowned for its fishing with lake trout to 15kg, rainbows to 8kg, and kokanee. FORT ST. JAMES: has a population of approximately 2,000 residents in the main trading area and about 1,000 more in the outlying districts. The town has five motels, two bed-and-breakfasts, a small shopping mall, two grocery supermarkets, a post office and a drug store.
Fort St. James was founded by Simon Fraser in 1806 and was referred to as the Stuart Lake Post until 1822 when it became Fort St. James. It was the chief fur-trading post and capital of the large and prosperous district of New Caledonia, in 1821 the Fort became a Hudsons Bay Company post. Today five of the original buildings survive, including a storehouse and salmon cache.
Excellent year round all weather roads lead to the area and service the ranchettes, each of which is a minimum of 5 acres or 225,000 square feet.
